I agree with Shelley about Cassandra. She and Jane relied on each other. I wish I could read all of Jane's correspondence but would I want someone to be able to read all that I've said all my life? No, not really. Perhaps Jane was annoyed with someone and was particularly vehement about it. All of us have been there, whether we wrote it down or not.

Maybe the two of them are enjoying each other's company for eternity!

Very cool. The things you don't think about in the age of computers, when it's easy to sort out, without having to consider every name on a list and all the different age numbers, everyone from 65-69. Must have been a lot easier if whoever was counting didn't have to think "66 -- counts in the 65 group...68 -- counts in the 65 group...64 -- counts in the 60 group". Much easier to write them down in the right age category in the first place. But so strange, these days, to think they were losing accuracy on purpose.

Rounding people's age down so that it's easier to calculate...strange. I wonder if Jane would write more novels if she was to live till her 60s.

This is all very interesting. Do you think Cassandra could have...well,lied? Maybe she was a bit vain. She was after all,"The Beautiful Cassandra".I will always dislike her for burning so many of Jane's letters.( Sorry Jane.) I finally visited Chawton this past June. As I walked through the rooms I was just overwhelmed. I took the still beautiful walk past Chawton House and farm. I took a moment in the church to thank our wonderful Jane.
